Historical Timeline
1087 - William the Conqueror founded St Nicholas Priory
c. 1450 - Priory extensively remodelled
1536 - Dissolution of the Monastries by Henry VIII. The priory's possesions were surrendered
1540 - Priory turned into a merchant's mansion with fine plaster ceilings
1665 - The buildings were sub-divided into tenements, resulting insteady decline
1790-2 - The Catholic chapel of St Nicholas was built on the site of the East Range
c. 1820 - Priory buildings described as "a mere rookery of tenements" and rapidly declined
1864 - Western end of building demolished to widen The Mint
1913 - Exeter City Council purchased the West Range only and restored it
1989 - 21, The Mint ceased to be occupied by Exeter College of Art & Design and remained empty
1995 - Plymouth Roman Catholic Diocese put the building on the market as well as The Mint
1996 - Exeter Historic Building Trust was formed to rescue the building
1997 - Heritage Lottery Fund grand allows restoration to begin
2002 - Restoration was completed
2009 - Sub-lime Renovations were called in to freshen up 21, The Mint, as well as the apartment above, which included plastering and decorating, amongst other things
